Leave Your Shoes and Your Ego at the Door

Maintain a beginner’s mindset. You are doing yourself a disservice when you go through life believing that you know it all. You are preventing yourself from ever being able to learn something new. Always stay a student. Pick up a book on a topic that you know nothing about and challenge yourself to acquire new knowledge. Take a glance at the people in your daily life. Your peers have individual knowledge. Allow them to teach you a new skill.

Many people believe that they are the most knowledgeable person in the room and that everything must be done their way or else it will be done incorrectly. This ultimately stems from the fear of uncertainty, but fact remains that no one person is capable of doing everything on their own. Succumb your need for control. Allow others the space to assist you without your interference or micromanagement as you may learn something new from them. Forget credit and recognition when applicable. If your efforts are based on your ego or societal recognition, then the outcome will not be in your favor. Embrace the act of selflessness and understand that many situations are bigger than you. Connect and focus on the greater purpose and less on image or outcome.

The act of surrendering is the opposite of what we are mostly always trying to do. It makes us feel weak or less than, but surrendering is a necessary task. We tend to seek control in many different aspects of life. We set schedules, routines, and systems that go against natural order. We try to control the uncontrollable instead of moving with openness.

Don’t let pride get in the way of your happiness. Open yourself up to the uncertainty of the moment and live in it just as it is without trying to change it.

Practice gratitude and show appreciation for each lived moment. You must move away from comfort and smile at fear instead of running away from it. It is extremely psycho-spiritual when we come from a place of love, rather than one of fear.

Do everything with intention. We’ve moved away from our conscious state and have continuously become more robotic and less intentional. We stray further away from our actual goals and higher purpose.

Practice asking yourself questions more frequently to understand your motive. You are most motivated when you hold a deeper connection to something. Recognize whether something is going to get you closer to your higher purpose, why it may be important, what you really intend to gain at the end of it, and how it could play out for you.

The love of self isn’t always obnoxious. When intentional and in the absence of one’s ego, the love of self is simply an acknowledgement of one’s true power and place on this planet.
