How to Remain Calm in the Post-Pandemic Work World
Many of us spent the majority of last year working remotely due to the pandemic.
The initial transition from in-office to home office wasn’t easy, but it was a change that we eventually got accustomed to.
Now that quarantine restrictions are beginning to loosen, many people are excited to get back to their work office. They’ve been anticipating the escape from home and return to “normalcy”. Meanwhile, others are anxious about that return for various reasons.
For those that are on the latter, the anticipation that you may hold is for the end of the work day—the time in which you can decompress and declutter your mind.
Here’s a list of things that you can do to unwind after work.
Clock Out and Log Off
Keep in mind that once you clock out, you are no longer obligated to do any work for your organization. Checking your work email at home is one of the quickest ways to get drawn back into work. By completely shutting off your work devices, you are less likely to be tempted to take a glance.
Practice Meditation
Take this time to improve your focus. Focus on your feelings, positive thoughts, body posture, and breathing.
Deep breathing is a form of meditation.
Try to deep breathe for at least 10 minutes at a time or until you feel yourself getting more relaxed.
First, close your mouth and inhale through your nose for four seconds. Next, hold your breath for seven seconds. Finally, exhale through your mouth slowly for eight seconds. Then, repeat the steps.
There are several different breathing exercises you can try.
Become One With Nature
Go for a walk. If you feel inclined, you can practice your photography skills and take pictures of any exotic findings.
Pamper Yourself
Use aromas to become calm and relaxed.
Candles, incense, oil burners and diffusers are a couple ways that you can create a relaxing ambiance in your home.
Make yourself a flower bath by adding epsom salt with lavender and chamomile essential oils and top it off with petals from any flowers of your choice.
Prior to stepping into your bath, apply your favorite face mask for skin care.
Spend as much time in your bath as you please. You’ve earned it!
Finish your skin care routine by massaging your serums and moisturizers into your rejuvenated skin.
Massage a healthy combination of jojoba, almond, olive, cinnamon, vanilla, and clove oil all over your body for lock in the hydration.
Work on Your Side Hustle
Although following up work with more work may not be ideal, working on your hobbies, (especially the ones that are monetizable) should be enjoyable. This activity shouldn’t cause you stress, and if you find that it does, try picking up something else.
Cook a Healthy Dinner
Eating healthy ultimately reflects itself in your mood.
Bake a Tasty Treat
Eating a healthy dinner makes dessert all the more guilt-free. After all, you should reward yourself for making it through another day.
“Dear Diary…”
Journaling helps with bettering your mood and mind. It’s also important to not let any negative emotions bottle up.
If writing isn’t your thing, try having conversation with yourself or a loved one that you can confide in for emotional support.
Learn Something New
Acquiring new skill sets or new knowledge is necessary and it makes you feel good knowing that you now have new information stored in your brain.
Call the Scrub Squad
One of my personal favorite decompressing activities!
Turn on your best music playlist, uncork a bottle of wine, get your favorite incense and oils burning, and start to declutter.
Rid yourself of everything that no longer serves you and you’ll see the difference it makes in your space—not only visually, but energetically.
Listen To a New Podcast
Try finding a new podcast on any topic that interests you. This is another way that you can acquire new knowledge and you can even listen while you can clean. It’s the ultimate 3-in-1.
Spend Quality Time With Your Loved Ones
Spending quality time with your loved ones is very important. Having light-hearted conversations and engaging in laughter is bound to boost your serotonin and dopamine levels.
Work It Out!
Pick an activity that’s fun and proactive. No matter what, just keep your body moving.
Incorporate yoga and meditation before, after or in between each workout session.
Make sure that you are stretching before and after each exercise. Take a few minutes to relax your muscles after exercising. Lay flat on the floor tensing and releasing all muscles.
Watch Your Favorite Show
Take time to catch up on your favorite shows.
Go to Bed Early
Let your body be at ease and give it time to reload. Going to bed early has plenty of benefits and you’ll surely thank yourself for this effort once it’s time to get up and endure the work day all over again the following morning.
